UCSB Tennis Stadium

Jensen Design & Survey, Inc. was contracted to provide engineering services for UC Santa Barbara’s new Arnhold Tennis Center which consists of six new courts, two refurbished courts, seating for 300 fans and a 1,860 square foot building for housing team amenities such as locker rooms, a lounge and storage. The design build project was one of many that JDS has teamed up with Byrom-Davey to provide first-class sporting facilities. Design included grading, utilities, and post-construction stormwater BMPs for the tennis courts, team facilities, and a nearby park. Very shallow groundwater and known drainage issues within the surrounding areas, combined with stormwater detention and treatment requirements resulted in a complex storm drain system. The final design incorporated two detention areas including the use of proprietary underground plastic cells. The shallow groundwater also required review of possible hydrostatic uplift for the water tight detention systems.
